Clear Skin |

Not so many people have proportioned bodies, but almost any person at any age can have an attractive appearance. How is that? If their skin is glowing and looking healthy, we can bet that many people will find the respective persons attractive. You can have healthy looking skin by having a healthy diet, good health habits and cleanliness. But not all people are so fortunate. There are quite a lot of them that follow these simple rules and still have problems with acne.
We have seen a great number of teenagers as well as adults that are complaining about the fact that no matter what they do, their skin is full of acne. They are wrongfully comparing themselves with other people like: family members, friends or colleagues. But this is not a fair comparison. People are different. You'll not see people that are perfectly alike. Also their skin is different and reacts differently. For example we have seen cases when some teenagers whine about the fact that their friends have clear skin no matter what they eat.
Acne - Running in the family
“Hi! I'm Julia and I have a problem with acne, it's all over my face. My mom took me to see a doctor and he said the food I eat makes me have acne. But I don't understand how, because my best friend Alison eats the same things and she does not have one bit of acne. And now I'm not allowed to eat french fries, chocolate, cakes and other things I really like so much.”
This is one testimony of a teenager that is surprised by the fact that even though she eats same things as her friend she has acne, and her friend doesn't. You may wonder how it is possible. Acne is known to be hereditary. If you have had family members with acne problems, you might also have the same problems. But if your friend didn't have acne history in his/her family it is possible that he/she will never have acne problems. When you have a predisposition to have acne, certain foods that you ingest will aggravate it. This means that you have to watch your diet very carefully and discover which foods affect you skin condition and which don't. And after that, eliminate from your meals the ones that are bad for you.
Medical conditions make people different
Last week, in a women's magazine, I've also read this: “My name is Eliza and I'm 34. I have a big problem with acne. I have it on the face, neck and back. When I was young I had acne troubles like any other kid. But now it's worse. My dermatologist says this is because of what I eat. I don't believe this is true because in the first place I'm on a diet (I have diabetes) and secondly I eat more or less the same foods my colleagues at work eat and they don't have acne.”
Even though she says she eats the same foods as her colleagues, this person doesn't count the fact that she has a medical condition, diabetes. She must admit that she is not like her colleagues. For example, diabetics must stay away from sugars. Does this mean that her colleagues also have to avoid sugars? Of course not! People are different and they have different needs. And in particular, people with various medical conditions are especially different from the ones that are healthy. In the same way some specialist are making the same mistake in their studies about acne. They are taking healthy people with healthy skin and no history of acne in their families, and stuff them with big quantities of bad food. After that, they expect the subjects to have outbreaks of acne. This will never happen. Instead they should perform the same studies on people with acne and discover which foods make their acne worse and which don't.
You don't have acne? Great, keep it that way!
People with clear, healthy skin should also be afraid of acne. This does not mean they have to stay away from the foods they heard are bad for the skin. Keeping a healthy diet is also important for the whole body. And also it is important to clear your skin from the outside. Healthy, normal skin should be washed regularly with mild soap and water. This will help to remove any grease, perspiration, and dirt. The skin from your face will require special care. This is because it is constantly exposed to the environment elements. Heredity as well as environment will be important for the variation in the quantity of oil and perspiration secreted by the glands of different people. Your face should be cleaned in the morning and again before bedtime. Also, avoid massaging soap into the skin as it might cause drying. Even people with clear skin are different, as they have different skin types. There are 3 essential skin types: dry, oily, and combination between dry and oily. A person will have dry skin if not enough oil is secreted by the sebaceous glands. This type of skin looks dull, flaky and very tight. It might be also the result of water being lost from the surface of the skin. Also, using soaps to frequently and constant exposure to dry air may turn your normal skin into a dry one. People who spend a lot of time in air conditioning are also likely to have dry skin. To take care of your dry skin you should wash your face only once a day with a mild sop. Pat your skin to dry, don't rub it. Use oil based makeup and moisturizers and avoid the ones that contain alcohol which has a drying effect on the skin.
Usually, oily skin people have large pores and shiny faces. This type of skin is more likely to develop acne because it is predisposed to attract more dirt than dry skin. You should wash it frequently during the day. This time the recommendation is to use alcohol based toners and astringents. Use water based makeup and powder to minimize the shine.
People with combined skin have normal skin on their cheeks and oily skin on their T zone (the area across the forehead and down the nose and chin). This type of skin should be well hydrated and at the same time shine in the oily areas should be eliminated. This can be done with cosmetic products specially designed for combined skin. Use oil-absorbing makeup to reduce shine.
When we think of looking young, we should think of our skin. If it looks healthy and glowing we will appear very youthful, while when it is dull and dry it will surely add some years to your face. But before we waste money on skin products that guarantee great results and are not fit for our skin, it is important to know what type of skin we have and what kind of care it needs.
